Janell und CarltonAfter a long stage we decided to stay over night on a playground in North Bent. While we were watching a sportsman running around the playground Janell greeted us very friendly. Her house stood close to the place we waited. When we told her about our stay for the night she and her husband immediately invited us to come in. We were allowed to camp in their yard, got a delicious dinner and did our whole laundry. A shower completed the cleaning-program. The next day we could be part of the rehearsal of Janell's bell group. It was a wonderful musical experience. (ma) |

Tamara, Mike, Alana und NatalieA friend from Aschaffenburg mailed us that her penpal doesn't live far from the Oregon Coast and wanted to meet us. After a first common day of campingwe all decided to meet again. When we finally ahve been near the Califonian boarderthey picked us ub with their car ant took us to their home in the inland. There we had holiday from bicycling for more than one week. going to cinema, rafting, the city festival with oldtimer cruizing and open air musicand a lot of relaxation and computer time made the stay for us to a huge enrichment for our trip. Afterwards the parting at the campsite in the middle of the redwoods has been really hard. (ma) |

Kay und FrankWhile I was looking for a street sign Mila waited in front of a pink and purple painted house. She wanted to take a picture when suddenly the door opened and Frank asked in German if we got lost. While we had a cup of coffee in his garden we discussed the American way of life compared to the German. After his wife Kay also came they showed us their collection of antiques witch they primarily see as a kind of retirement money. So at that day the stage got really short even we started very early. DollyOn a parking lot we asked Dolly for the next supermarket. She didn't know the way but she told us about her hobby: She pants rocks! And than she showed us her masterpieces: A box with pralines made from stones. The final chocolate texture she made with gasoline. Even Hamburger she has made, but the cheese slice was made from a shoe sole. Her largest object was a rock, which she painted like a dinosaur head. She showed us that you can have a lot of fun with more than 80 years. (ma) |

Kelly und RobRiding the narrow part of HW101 near the Californian border we noticed a truck with a part of a house. Good luck for us that we had a break at that moment. Directly behind it followed two more house pieces. For us as Germans it was a very unusual load. In the next city we met Kelly. She tried to find some of her friends to find a spot to stay for us. After nothing worked she offered her yard to camp a little bit out of town. From her we heard, that the house we saw on the road will get the new office of her business. She developed together with his husband Rob a new community. In the three days we staid we got an impression of the problems you can get with authorities, neighbors, investors and colleagues. But Mila could say thank you for the hospitality by giving a lot of ideas about the design of the parks. (ma) |

DanielThe holiday bicyclist from France we met in the redwoods. After a small hike we bicycled together to the campground. The next morning he had already to leave because in a little more than 2 weeks he wanted to get to LA. And that would be nearly 900 miles. We staid for one more night and hiked through the amazing forest around the campground and enjoyed the time we had. It is so different, not to be on normal holidays! (ma) |

Ivohas been the first bicyclist we met on a recumbent bike. In contrast to us he went north. Though he had his around the world trip nearly finished. Since more than one year he bicycled through East-Europe, Australia, New Zealand and parts of the USA. Now his inner voice told him to go home slowly. But before he wanted to bicycle in Utah on a mountain bike. (ma)His WebPages with pictures and reports you can find at www.angelfire.com/trek/velospeiche/ E-Mail: schivo@scoo.ch |

JillAt the afternoon, when we arrived in Arcata we followed the tip to visit the COOP, a big supermarket full of organic food. And while we looked at the bulletin board with lots of announcements to concerts Mila met Jill. She sat together with fiends in front of the shop. Spontaneously she offered us to stay overnight in her former room. She just moved closer to the university and the next people will move in the following week. In the three days we staid Jill showed us the chocolate side of Arcata. Especially the weekend farmers market with live music and dance we will never forget. (ma) |

Kristie and TrevorOur hosts in Ferndale immediately offered a place to stay after we called, even if Jenner occupied the guestroom. 14 Month is their son and everybody can make out at once, that his parents' roots go back to Denmark. They bicycled a lot along the US-West Coast with their tandem. Now they are waiting until they can carry Jenner in a trailer for the next tours. "But not again on the tandem" they said! (ma) |
