People we met at the Peruvian coast |

Omar
As you maybe already read in the report "Diary/Perú: first days",
Omar and his family prepared a beautiful welcome for us, so that we
had to love Perú spontaneously. Omar studies at the university
of Callao beside his work for a telephone company. Despite his rare
free time, he showed us a lot. The photo shows us together with his
girlfriend Beatriz in the cafeteria of the university. We enjoyed
the time with Omar and his dear family very much! |

HaraldAgain we were helped unexpectedly, when we had problems. We needed urgently new rims for our bicycles since the old ones didn't last as long, as they should, (see also at "Technology"). After unsuccessful search of 28"-wheels in Guatemala City and in Lima our sponsor Ralf of "feine räder" at once helped us. He sent us three complete new wheels. And we could avoid the incredible high shipping costs, because we met Harald. The German-teacher of the University Callao has been visited by his brother just some days after we met him. So his brother could carry the wheels for us for free in the plane. (mi) |

RolandoOne is not able to tell it directly by the look of him, but Rolando was enthusiastic bicycle racer. Today, he runs the gas station "El Ciclista" and invites all passing cyclists on a little chat. His visitors' books contain entries from all around the world: travelling bicyclist, who dropped in at their trip along the legendary Panamerican Highway. With juice and rolls, we chatted about bicycling and trips with him. His two sweet daughters would also like to bicycle later, but now they first have to practice with their tricycle first. (mi) |

CésarWe were choosing a room for the stay at that moment, when César abducted us short-decided from his brother's hotel and brought us to his home. With our trip, we reminded him of his own adventures: With 14 years, he was drawn into the States in order to study there. In the 70th, the time of the hippies, he traveled through Europe as long-haired and finally ended up in his home Peru again. With his woman and his children, he now settled down here, but many wild ideas still romp around in his head. (mi) |

Leo "Dr. Software""What?! You stay at Dr. Software?!!!" Omar could't believe it at all, as we mailed him, where we had landed after our departure of Lima. Leo alias Dr. Software is famous for his programs in the entire Spanish-speaking area of the world (home page: www.hacha.org) Everyone, who works on the computer in South America, knows "Hacha", a program, that Leo developed for a simplified data transfer. We helped Leo with writing the German manual, he gave us tips for our home page (now, we have justifyed texts!). Even more Leo helped us when Markus was stolen his camera bag. He accompanied us to the police and translated for us (he speaks very well English). His wife Vissi cooked delightfully for us, Sofia helped me to bake a delicious cake for Markus birthday and so on. The whole family gave their best in order to make a beautiful time possible for us despite the whole plight. (mi) |
