On my first big cycling trip I carried a MagLite driven by two D-Cells.
It was very bright and lasts for very long but it weighs about 2 lb;-) |

On my former trips I always carried an UCO candle light. Together
with the reflector it produces enough pleasant light to read
or write if fixed under the ceiling of
the tent (without reflector it's definetly not enough).
Unfortunately it is not suitable for warm countries.
Already at 80-90F at sunny weather it gets
so warm in the panniers that the wax gets soft. The spring
pushes it through its cover out. Also I never got it
fixed in the tent that nobody can touch it. Always some drops of wax
splashed to the glastube. It got less transparent and was hardly
to slide together. |
